The stone guide

What is tiger eye?

Tiger eye, also written tiger's eye, is a stone from the quartz family. It forms when quartz slowly fills a fibrous mineral, keeping its fine parallel threads. Those threads catch the light in a moving band of shine that looks like a cat's eye, called chatoyancy. Most tiger eye stone comes from South Africa. In Arabic it is called حجر عين النمر, and Roman soldiers are said to have carried it into battle.

Golden, red and green tiger eye

Golden tiger eye is the classic: honey-gold and brown stripes that flash as the stone turns. Red tiger eye glows in deep mahogany and copper tones, and green tiger eye in a rich olive, each with the same moving band of light.

Tiger eye stone benefits and meaning

In crystal traditions, tiger eye is the stone of courage and focus, worn for confidence and steady ambition. Tradition says to wear a tiger eye bracelet on the left hand to draw its qualities in and on the right to project them outward. These are traditional meanings rather than medical claims.

How to care for tiger eye

Tiger eye is hard and durable, ideal for everyday wear. Clean it with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, dry it well, and keep it away from harsh chemicals.
